Goodwood Festival of Speed

Goodwood House and Estate

Goodwood House sits proudly in an estate covering 12,000 acres, just five minutes’ drive from the bustling cathedral city of Chichester. Set in the rolling hills of the Sussex Downs, this spectacular, Grade I listed, country house was built at the beginning of the 17th century and is the seat of the Duke of Richmond. If you’re looking to combine history and art, with a touch of luxury, a tour of the House followed by afternoon tea may be the perfect addition to your Sussex holiday.

The Goodwood Estate

If you’ve been on holiday in the Chichester area before, you may well be familiar with the Goodwood Estate. It’s the site of world-renowned motorsport events, Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival, as well as ‘Glorious Goodwood’ – it’s most prestigious horseracing meeting. It’s also home to driving and flying experiences, golf courses, hotels, restaurants, organic farms and beautiful walks. The headquarters of Rolls Royce Motor Cars is also on the Estate.

The House

Goodwood House, surrounded by the picturesque parkland of the Goodwood Estate, oozes grandness, glamour and luxury, while retaining the warmth of a family home. Its outstanding art and furniture collections are displayed in beautifully-restored rooms throughout the house. Explore its porcelain, tapestry, furniture and painting collections. Each year, an exhibition is held at Goodwood House relating to the history of Goodwood. Past exhibitions have included The Renaissance Duke, The Charlton Hunt, The French Collection and Royal Goodwood. Visit the Goodwood website to learn more about current and past exhibitions.

Tour and afternoon tea details

The House is open from March to October for luxury afternoon tea and tours. Afternoon tea is served in its magnificent Ballroom and costs £25 per person. Tours cost just £9.50 and usually last between 1 and 1.5 hours. You’ll be guided around each of the State Apartments and gain an insight into the fascinating history and heritage of Goodwood.

Cass Sculpture Park

Continue the art theme and combine your trip to Goodwood House with a wonder around Cass Sculpture Park. Nestled in beautiful woodlands towards the north of the Estate, the Cass Sculpture Park is a tribute to 21st century British sculpture. The Cass Sculpture Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that displays work from some of the most important figures in contemporary sculpture. Names include Anthony Caro, Eduardo Paolozzi, Rachel Whiteread and Tony Cragg.
