9 – 12 July 2020 (tickets now on sale)

The Festival of Speed is the largest car culture event in the world, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year to the magnificent grounds of Goodwood Estate. With a ‘garden party’ feel, and motorsport stars and celebrities at every turn, this unique summer event should be in every automotive enthusiast’s calendar. It is the main highlight among the Goodwood Festival events.

This headline event at Goodwood takes place annually mid-summer, with dates set for its 28th running as 9th – 12th July 2020. While 2020’s theme is yet to be announced, 2019 formed a celebration of Michael Schumacher’s Formula 1 career, with cars and rivals from the champion’s career brought together in one place.

Event highlights:

  • Get up close and personal to F1, with displays and cars from teams such as Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull.
  • Meet current and past motorsport legends, with the biggest names from F1, MotoGP, and rally racing all in attendance.
  • See the latest supercars in action making global dynamic debuts and impressive blasts up the notorious Hill Climb.
  • Step into the future of motoring with the First Glance Paddock and Future Lab.
  • Top pick for adrenaline: Sunday Shootout.

Each year, hundreds of cars take to the Festival of Speed Hill Climb. This brief blast is a fantastic performance and demonstration for the crowds, but also a chance for the drivers to top previous times. 2019 saw the all-electric Volkswagen ID.R set the pace, making it a standout moment in Goodwood Festival events.

Top pick for rally enthusiasts: The Forest Rally Stage.

Set in the dense woodland of Goodwood Estate, the Forest Rally Stage offers noise, drama, and tight hairpin turns for one weekend a year only. The Rally Stage also has an open paddock for visitors to walk freely around and observe hundreds of rally cars being prepped for the course. This is a must-see event among the Goodwood Festival events for rally fans.

Fresh Air suggests…

The Goodwood Festival events, often shortened to FOS, sell out quickly, so purchase your tickets early. Admissions start from £42, with grandstand passes from £71.

Fresh Air has a number of holiday properties close to Goodwood Estate. Book early, as accommodation in the area notoriously becomes full for miles around during Goodwood Festival events.

Travel to the event early morning to miss the tailbacks. The festival offers something for the whole family, and kids under 12 go free.

Be sun safe. The event is even more spectacular when the sun is shining, with plenty of grassy banks to relax and enjoy the action from. But be sure to pack sunscreen and hats, as there isn’t always shade readily available across the Estate.
