West Wittering – home to one of the UK’s best beaches – is a great starting point for a beautiful coastal and country walk. These West Wittering walks offer a mix of quiet paths, stunning sea views, and tranquil countryside all year round.

Directions

Park on Rookwood Road, West Wittering, near the Old House at Home pub. Look for the brown sign to West Wittering Beach and head down Pound Road. Take the first right down Ellanore Lane and follow it to the shoreline. At the end of the lane, you’ll see a gate where a path bears to the right. After a short while, the path leads inland slightly through a small area of houses.

Follow the footpath signs to a kissing gate, bringing you back to the shoreline. Continue along the path and enjoy views over to Bosham and further afield. You’ll pass a pond called Horse Pond before coming into a wooded area. Take the path to your right through a squeeze gate.

Just before the white gates, turn right to pick up the footpath. Follow this path across fields until you reach a crossroad. Cross over the farm road and follow the path over two fields until you come out onto Sheepwash Lane. This takes you back to the village of West Wittering, where you can end your walk with a well-earned drink at the Old House at Home – after all, you’re on holiday!

Extend your walk

After completing one of these beautiful West Wittering Walks, you’ll have the chance to relax and unwind at one of the local pubs, enjoying the surrounding serenity. If you’d like to extend your walk and incorporate a drink or lunch, follow the shoreline to Itchenor village, where you’ll find The Ship Inn. Popular with locals and holidaymakers alike, The Ship Inn, Itchenor, offers hearty pub lunches, ales, and fish specials.

Once done at the pub, head up the road and turn right through the white gates near the village hall. You’ll see a path immediately on your left.

At the end of the path, go through a squeeze gate and bear left up the track, which becomes a concrete road. Just before you reach the farm buildings, turn right and follow the footpath over a stile. You’ll see a cobbled barn on your left. The path then bears left through a gap in the wall. Continue on, and then leave at the crossroads. This is where the extended route ends, and you’ll return to the original path.
